The Slammer - Episode
2
First broadcast: Friday 29 September 2006, BBC ONE/CBBC
Channel, 4:55pm
Mr Burgess interrupts The Governor's auditions for the Freedom
Show. There is a small problem with one of the acts. It wasn't Mr
Methane who stopped trumping though, much to the disappointment
of C-wing. Carla the Human Cannonball was apprehended trying to
fire herself over the prison wall. Someone changed the angle of
her cannon at the very last moment, and Carla crashed into the wall.
The Governor asks Jeremy to take her down to the hospital wing.
Unfortunately, the hospital wing is in the basement, and it's very
scary down there.

Whilst bringing Carla to the hospital wing, Jeremy hears a scary
sound in the basement. "Helloooo". He looks through one
of the cell doors only to discover an enourmous talking bird, along
with a strange looking man. Scared as he is, Jeremy runs away.
Meanwhile, Melvin's sorting out Mr Methane's lunch. Broccoli and
baked beans with added extra hot chillies, his favourite. Mr Methane
has to keep things brewing down below, as he's desperate to win
the Freedom Show. Melvin tells him to rehearse his act in the yard,
because he's got very sensitive sinusses.
Jeremy comes running in. Peter Nokio asks him what's wrong. Jeremy
tells him he saw something horrible in the basement, something with
scary eyes and a weird voice. "I didn't know Mr Burgess was
living down in the basement", jokes Titch while Mr Burgess
appears on the scene. He slaps Titch. Jeremy tells his story again.
"It was some kind of duck, and it had a strange guy with him."
Keith Harris and Orville, knows Mr Burgess. A notorious variety
performer, and his good-for-nothing green feathered duck. Melvin
says Keith and Orvilla are showbiz legends and asks Mr Burgess why
they're locked up in the basement. He tells Melvin Harris is stuck
in some sort of trance. "He's been like it for years. Hence
the need to keep him well away from you other theatrical filth."
Titch is appalled by what he hears, he says they cannot let Keith
Harris and Orville rotting in the basement. "This is a human
rights issue, not to mention a duck's right", finds Melvin.
Peter, Titch and Melvin demanded to see The Governor. "Either
that or I call Mr Methane back in from the exercise yard!"
Mr Burgess takes them to see The Governor.

Videoclip: "Keith Harris is in a trance"
The Governor says Harris is trapped inside his own mind, entirely
oblivious to the outside world. He had the identical problem with
Barry Chuckle. Melvin asks if Keith Harris and Orville could appear
on the Freedom Show, they could replace Carla the Human Cannonball.
The Governor would love to, but Harris has been in trance for years.
If he can't come back to reality, there's no way of appearing on
the Freedom Show. Melvin says the prisoners are going to try and
wake Keith up. If they succeed, Keith Harris and Orville are guaranteed
a spot on the Freedom Show. After all, everyone loves a green showbiz
duck in a nappy!
"It's no use, he's completely out of it", shouts Peter
Nokio's pet monkey. Orville tells him he's been trying to wake up
Keith for years. Peter's monkey accuses Orville of just being a
stupid green duck, and they start arguing with each other. If they
would know what happened to Keith that got him into his current
state, maybe they could work out how to get him out of it again.
Peter asks Orville how this whole thing began. "It was like
yesterday. We just finished performing our legendary hit single
I Wish I Could Fly. It was then I came over a little bit funny,
I said to Keith I could really fly and I tried flying over the audience.
Ever since that faithful day, Keith hasn't spoken a word".
They need some constructive ideas. Mr Methane says he could give
Keith a Duch Oven, that should bring him back to reality pretty
quick. He tries it out on Jeremy.
Not a good idea, thinks Melvin, after which the prisoners try almost
everything to get Keith Harris back into the real world. Even shooting
him out of Carla's cannon doesn't work.

Keith just won't wake up, and there are only two minutes left
before the show. Jeremy discovered a CD with Orville's song in The
Governor's office, he plays it and, as if by magic, Keith harris
comes back to reality. He can now perform on the Freedom Show!
The audience decides who gets to leave The Slammer with the help
of the Clap-O-Meter. Whoever gets the loudest applause wins a price
money can't buy, freedom. The children were amazed by Keith Harris
and Orville, and decided they should leave The Slammer.
