The Slammer - Episode

It's nearly Christmas. The inmates are allowed to have friends
and family coming over to visit them, and exchange Christmas presents!
Mr Burgess, who's in a terribly grumpy mood over the festive period,
hates Christmas visiting. He finds it outrageous. "Fancy giving
this bunch of delinquent twirlies contact with the outside world.
I mean, you might as well dress them up in a spangly cat suit and
give them a standing ovation for all the punishment they're getting!
I tell you what Gimbert, it gets right up my goat." Jeremy
Gimbert loves Christmas, however.
Melvin's brother Rickie is there to wish him a merry Christmas.
He's brought a magic potion with him, all the way from Burundu.
"It's the answer to all of your problems" Rickie promises
him. Melvin, who's got stage fright, can't believe what he's hearing.
Meanwhile, the Governor is handing out presents to his performing
inmates. He's organised a special Freedom Show, and one of the lucky
inmates will be released in time for Christmas. Performing for this
very special opportunity are the Yo Yo people, Bobby Badfingers,
Feeding The Fish and a young band called Outrage. They're not very
happy with their presents though, as the Governor gives them toilet
paper every year. He promises to get them a bottle of pop as well.
Jeremy Gimbert's showing off his Christmas presents to Mr Burgess,
who's terribly grumpy! "Look at all my presents Mr Burgess.
It's lucky you don't like Christmas, because you don't have any
do you?" They're interrupted by the Governor, dressed in a
Santa outfit. Gimbert thinks it's the real Santa Claus, however.
Santa gives him some money and orders him to go to the corner shop
to get some bottles of pop for the inmates.
Melvin is showing his magic potion to Peter Nokio and his friend
Charlie Chimp. "Take a look at this, my brother got it for
me. It's from Burundu. It's meant to be a legendary magic cure for
stage fright. He says it will have me up and in front of an audience
in no time." Charlie Chimp doesn't believe in it, but Peter
Nokio encourages Melvin to drink from the potion. "Drink that,
get yourself a spot on the Freedom Show and you'll be home in time
for Christmas, Melvin!" Surprisingly enough, it works! Melvin
is dancing in front of all the other inmates, the Governor and Mr
Burgess!
"Melvin, it's a Christmas miracle!" the Governor shouts.
Melvin asks him for a slot on the Freedom Show, but the Governor
gave the last place to the band Outrage. That's the kind of thing
Mr Burgess likes to hear. "Looks like you'll be spending Christmas
with us after all, Odoom!" Chez, from Outrage, asks if Melvin
can be part of their act. The Governor agrees.
Peter Nokio is getting ready to celebrate Christmas with all his
little puppet friends. He's in a happy Christmassy mood, until Mr
Burgess comes in. He's very angry because Melvin can perform on
the Freedom Show after all. "I'm going to confiscate all your
puppets, Nokio! You can have them back when your normal!"
Jeremy's back from the corner shop, with the pop for the inmates.
Peter Nokio notices the drinks. They look just like the magic potion
Melvin got from his brother. "Melvin can't find out about this!"
It's nearly showtime when Jeremy Gimbert is handing out the bottles
of pop to the inmates. Melvin comes along and discovers his magic
potion is just a bottle of pop from the corner shop! Now he won't
be able to perform on the Freedom Show.
The special Christmas show is going very well, till it's time for
Melvin's performance. He thinks he's not able to go on stage without
a magic potion, but Peter Nokio encourages him to perform after
all.
With a little bit of Christmas magic, Melvin gets to leave the Slammer
and the good Christmas Fairy takes revenge on Mr Burgess for taking
Peter Nokio's puppets. Merry Christmas!
