1
First broadcast: Friday 22 September 2006, BBC ONE/CBBC
Channel, 4:55pm
The Governor is having a meeting with his prison wardens. He tells
them a couple of new inmates arrived in the B-wing overnight. Stevie
Sausage, a fire-eater serving six months for burping at an old lady,
and Bernie Walters, the encredible memory man who forgot to turn
up at the theatre. But these two are not the only two arrivals at
HM Slammer. A new warden joins the team too, Jeremy Gimbert. The
somewhat grumpy Mr Burgess is told to show the new recruit what's
what. As it's Freedom Showday today, the Governor's having a meeting
with his sandwich.

Peter Nokio, a so-called puppeteer, is feeling blue because he's
not been chosen to perform in today's Freedom Show. The last warden
promised Peter, and his mate Titch, a spot on the Freedom Show,
but now he's gone and retired. It was Peter's first chance to perform
for early release for three years. Melvin Odoom, who got locked
up because he got stage-fright at the Royal Variety Performance,
promises to help him out.
They're interrupted by Mr Burgess, who's showing Jeremy round the
prison. Jeremy asks if it's true that Melvin's a dancer, which leads
to a dance in Melvin and Peter's cell. Whilst they're dancing, Titch
writes a note and sticks it on Jeremy's back.
Out of the cell, Mr Burgess tells Jeremy not to recommend that sort
of thing with the prisoners, because otherwise they will take liberties.
He takes the note, which says "my trousers are full of poop"
off Jeremy's back. "Odoom is not to be trusted", he concludes.

Jeremy is hold up by Ruth Bratt, who tells him she's an impressionist
who can impersonate prison wardens. She wants to show him and asks
if she could try on his cap, jacket, tie, shoes and trousers. Jeremy
willingly takes off his clothes. Whilst putting on the uniform,
Ruth locks him to the railing and walks off.

It's not a good start for Jeremy. He's only been on the job for
one day, and he already let a notorious comedian escape. Luckily,
the police found her, hiding out in the Chuckle Brother's garage.
The Governor's angry at Jeremy. "One more cock-up and you're
out, do you hear me. Nephew or no flipping nephew!"
Meanwhile, Melvin is threatened to be thrown into the Naughty Chorus.
He's trying to find a way to get Peter performing in the Freedom
Show. A bit later, Melvin introduces Jeremy to Uri Geller, a spoon-bender.
Amazed by Uri's spoon bending trick, Jeremy wants to see more. Melvin
suggests bending a key would be a good idea. Uri then bends the
key of one of the performing inmates.
It's showtime! The children have arrived at the prison and all the
acts are ready, apart from the escapologist, who can't get out of
his cell. Peter and Titch replace him. Other inmates performing
are the Horn-O-Phone Man, Iona and the Acromaniacs.
